Here Sherman lends her features to the stereotypical figure of an older, elegantly dressed and coiffed woman. Her languid, mannered pose against the backdrop of a Mediterranean landscape resembles a charmingly old-fashioned photographic portrait of an actress.

The large-format photograph belongs to a 2016 series by Sherman of aging women dressed like flappers, the girls who broke free from conventional appearance and behaviour in the 1920s. But the portrait lacks their emancipated, transgressive side. On the contrary, the character submits to the norms of depicting a certain image of femininity.

Untitled, 2016 was first presented by the Pinault Collection at the 2018 "Dancing with Myself" show at the Punta della Dogana in Venice.
