Verbal asceticism advocates discursive deprivation but cannot be reduced to a notion of moderation. This is a large series of printed papers in many formats and themes, from the smallest comic strip image to the imposing photographs of works such as Richard Serra's Floor Pole Prop and Cy Twombly's Coronation of Sesostris.
The astonishingly diverse series Verbal asceticism was exhibited at the Palazzo Grassi, where it covered much of the walls. Like a parallel to a second work by Urs Fischer, the monumental installation Jet Set Lady, presented in the museum's inner courtyard, was displayed in the rooms and juxtaposed with works by other artists.
A dense conceptual wallpaper, Verbal asceticism by Urs Fischer is in the Pinault Collection. It was first exhibited at the "Sequence 1" show in 2007 at the Palazzo Grassi.
