A man in wax, the artist himself, is sat on a chair in a posture that is as realistic as his clothes. The slow combustion of candle wicks and liquefaction of the sculpture gradually hollows out the head until it becomes a cascade of solidified wax.
Whether monumental or more intimate, Urs Fischer's works display and deconstruct the relationship with the body and materiality by using often perishable materials. The important series of wax sculptures that slowly melt down like burning candles subjects the form to a process of inexorable mutation that highlights the passage of time.
The sculpture Untitled representing Urs Fischer sat in an armchair was first shown by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition Madame Fisscher at Palazzo Grassi (2012).
