Martial Raysse

It reflected the countless facets of Martial Raysse’s protean, free-spirited work over more than 50 years while rejecting a strictly chronological order. An uninterrupted dialogue between paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations and films spanned every decade of his career throughout all the Palazzo Grassi’s spaces. This transversal view highlighted the deep continuity of his work, which was driven by the same issues from the start: the artist’s role and relationship to art, history and politics, and the place of painting, especially well represented in the show.
The show fit into the series of monographic exhibitions on major contemporary artists at the Palazzo Grassi that began with Urs Fischer in April 2012 and continued with Rudolf Stingel in 2013, featuring loans from international museums and works in the Pinault Collection.
