La mort m'aime

2003

Representing a human figure folded in on itself, La mort m'aime ("Death loves me") is a patinated bronze sculpture realized by Martial Raysse in 2003.

A masterful painter, Martial Raysse is also a "genius of the small form", small heterogeneous assemblages through which he gives free rein to his imagination using any type of medium, be it a credit card, a piece of wire, shoes.

Since the early 1960s, Raysse has been creating heterogeneous assemblages through the appropriation and accumulation of elements from mythology, history, tales and folk songs. He thus imagines his own fantastic universe in which a gallery of characters evolve. The hybridization of the images is accompanied throughout his journey by a technical experimentation where the intelligence of the handyman is exercised in composite structures.
