Untitled

All surfaces of a room (walls, floor, ceiling) covered with foam insulating sheathing (Celotex TUFF-R)

Variable dimensions

An entire room is covered in Celotex insulating foam. Obviously, it transforms the visual aspect of the room, which looks like a hospital or a hotel from a Stanley Kubrick film. It also modifies the sense of hearing since the sounds are muffled, as well as, one can imagine, the senses of smell and touch.

Italian artist Rudolf Stingel enjoys creating immersive experiences. One aspect of his versatile oeuvre consists in radically transforming a given space, often by covering it with various materials (insulating foam or carpet). Between installations and performances, these artworks invite the viewer to feel and experience a place in a different and unexpected way.

This work by Rudolf Stingel was shown for the first time in 2006 at the Where Are We Going? exhibition at Palazzo Grassi, in Venice.
