La Sagna
The work La Sagna is one of the "posters" produced by Franz West for the exhibition "Sequence 1", held at Palazzo Grassi in 2007. Between the the title of the exhibition and the artists' names appeats a strange and complex composition: against a blood-red background stands out a sensual woman, with a crucifix as a pendant, and a hand showing a cut on its index finger.
This large-scale impression responds - in a pictorial way - to a similar photographic montage presented within Sammelwand/Collecting Wall, gathering thirty collages made between 1972 and 2007. By blurring the boundaries between painting, poster and copy, and placing the exhibition in which he participates in the same archival rank as other objects, Franz West highlights the playful function of art.
