Doppelkopf, (Blau)

Doppelkopf ("Double-head") explores the concept of duality through two faces with distinct shapes and expressions, joined at the same neck and crowned with stylised hair. The profiles are turned in opposite directions, like the Roman deity Janus, and are distinguished by their contrasting gazes: the one with eyes open, the other with eyes closed. These identities, simultaneously inseparable and distinct, belong to the tradition of character studies. The two-tone glaze that oozes over the clay intensifies the sculpture's disturbing silence. This technique can also be found in a large head of a woman with lowered eyelids (Atrium), featuring a metallic appearance, from which emanates a certain serenity and strangeness, as it does not rely on the real.
