Untitled
Oil on canvas
180 × 150 × 3 cm (70 7/8 × 59 1/16 × 1 3/16 in.)
Grey, brown and beige shades sprinkled with accidental green cover the flat surface of the large painting Untitled. Dripping or flat, matt or diaphanous, the paint seems to pass through the most diverse states and techniques, creating an abstract composition of great intensity.
Albert Oehlen calls himself a "post-non-figurative" artist. From the outset, he has sought to push back painting’s boundaries from figurative to abstract. This work belongs to a series of large formats with similar grey tones. It attests to the visual explorations the artist has been carrying out for several decades.
Untitled was first exhibited by the Pinault Collection at the 2018 show "Cows by the Water" at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
