Oil on wood

Variable dimensions

H.A.T. is a series of six similarly-sized oil on wood paintings in different tones, including blue, grey, brown and red. In each work, the paint, violently splattered or applied in wide flat colours, seems to go through every possible perceptive and physical state.

This non-figurative series’ transparency, saturation, superimpositions, empty spaces, splashes, drips and impasto sum up Albert Oehlen's technique. He makes no attempt to hide flaws and imprecise brushstrokes. His painting is both trial and error and completed work. He "becomes a seer" by exploring and pushing back painting's possibilities.

Acquired by the Pinault Collection, the entire H.A.T. series was exhibited at the artist's 2018 solo show "Cows by the Water" at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
