Danh Vo's works feature objects of various kinds. Collected and sometimes modified, assembling and exhibiting them make sense and question the contingency of our identities and history.

With "You're gonna die up there / Keep away! The sow is mine / Fuck me" (quote from the film The Exorcist), the artist shows the crucified Christ, a key image in Christian iconography. This work follows up on his research on the evangelisation of non-Christian countries in Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam, where he was born. Danh Vo often works on religious sculptures he has acquired. Here, he has removed Christ’s arms, head and the cross on which he was crucified. As in We the People (detail), which is also in the Pinault Collection, the artist shows us only a fragment of an object, suggesting the effects of colonisation and the cultural upheavals it wrought.

This sculpture belonging to the Pinault Collection was presented during the "Debout !" ("Stand Up!") show at the Couvent des Jacobins in Rennes in 2018.
