Not Yet Titled
2006-2007
Cibachrome mounted on aluminium museum box
76.2 x 76.2 x 4 cm (30 x 30 x 1 9/16 in.)
On a tarpaulin covering the floor, two monochrome paintings rest on small polystyrene blocks; the corner of a window reveals an urban landscape: it is a view of an exhibition being set up.
Shots of exhibitions being set up are a common feature in the work of Louise Lawler. The artist likes to question the relationship between an artwork and its exhibition space. She is also interested in the conditions and processes of showing, selling and circulating objets d’art. In doing so, she desecrates our relationship to the art work, showing that these are objects that can be manipulated and moved around, and which take on meaning in a dedicated space.
The photograph Not Yet Titled was first shown by the Pinault Collection in 2011 at the "Le Monde vous appartient" (“The World Belongs to You”) exhibition at the Palazzo Grassi.
