Lizzie Fitch & Ryan Trecartin

American, born in 1981

Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin met during their studies, when they developed a video and sculptural language that combines their own original aspirations and techniques. This collaborative aspect plays an essential role in their work, both in terms of technique and conceptual content and becomes a form of artistic expression as a whole.

Ryan Trecartin acquired a personal language through the videos he designs, produces and films. His visual creations are presented within self-supporting sculptural environments made by his colleague Lizzie Fitch, who also participates in the film production and shooting. These moving tasks are redefined according to the works, but always specified in the credits at the end of their films.

Authors of a new form of collective creation, Fitch and Trecartin redefine the idea of a four-hand work. Their work was first shown by the Pinault Collection at the “Prima Materia” (“Raw Material”) exhibition at the Punta della Dogana.
