Spazio Luce cannot be fully seen at first sight. The gaze must first pierce through a grey-brownish mist to distinguish three encased forms: a rectangle, a circle and a cross. Francesco Lo Savio says his monochromes are “visions of light spectrums in space.” “A pure spatial concept”, this painting with a halo-like surface interacts with and becomes part of its surroundings.
The Spazio-Luce (“light-space”) series, together with Filtri and Metalli, are part of the painting cycles created by Lo Savio during his short artistic career. Aimed at expressing the energy of pure forms through the use of light, the artist's paintings play with the limits between the visible and the invisible.
Held in the Pinault Collection, Francesco Lo Savio's Spazio-Luce was first shown in 2006 at the Where Are We Going? exhibition at Palazzo Grassi, in Venice.
