This work whose title implies it is a self-portrait shows the bust of man that seems to levitate against a blue-grey backdrop. His face is abnormally colored, unrecognizable and marked with scars and swellings.
Following up on Bloody Heads, a series of bloody portraits made in the 1990s, American artist Llyn Foulkes revisits that same theme some 20 years later. With self-deprecating humor, he mutilates and disfigures himself in this harsh portrait in which he also questions the aura of the artist.
Llyn is part of a series of a dozen artworks by Llyn Foulkes held in the Pinault Collection and presented together in the group show À Triple tour (“triple locked”) at the Paris Conciergerie, in 2013.
