Mixed Media

111.1 x 98.4 cm (43 3/4 x 38 3/4 in.)

The yellowish photograph of an American vernacular house, the title of the artwork, blends as mise en abyme in a juxtaposition of disparate media (white frame, wooden plank, black backdrop). In addition, it is off-center in the general composition.

American artist Llyn Foulkes' caustic and bold oeuvre often mixes a wide array of techniques and materials to the point of blending them. He also quotes art history, placing it in a wider visual culture. Here, the documentary aesthetics reminiscent of Walker Evans' photographs is immediately mocked and even corrupted by the more trivial presence of the term ‘cash’ glued on the surface as the unequivocal symbol of American consumerism.

Home is part of a series of a dozen artworks by Llyn Foulkes held in the Pinault Collection and presented together in the group show À Triple tour (“triple locked”) at the Paris Conciergerie, in 2013.
