Punching bag
164 × 35 × 35 cm
Anne Imhof explores the tensions between the body, space, and power. Her work Untitled (2016), a suspended punching bag, embodies this duality between physical energy and inaccessibility, between the need to release aggression and the impossibility of action.
At first glance, the object evokes the culture of sports, a world where the body is tested. The punching bag, typically associated with catharsis, is transformed into an untouchable sculpture, frozen in its status as a work of art. It embodies frustration: that of a world where violence is omnipresent, where the desire to act is restrained by invisible structures, where the individual collides with their own limits. Far from being a simple object, Untitled (2016) becomes a symbol of our time: an unreachable outlet, a suspended tension, a force reduced to silence.
