Christopher Wool’s Black Book Drawings confronts the viewer with the graphic power of words. Each of these 22 pages imposes a unique term. The lettering in black capitals largely covers the white paper. The succession of serious, casual and even banal qualifiers reinforces the radicality of the work, resulting in a sensory and provocative experience.

The embodiment of the word as an image, Black Book Drawings is part of the first phases of Wool's artistic research, which takes roots in the New York urban context. Black Book resounds with force on the American artistic scene which receives it as a committed political work.

One of Christopher Wool's most emblematic works, Black Book Drawings was shown for the first time in 2006-2007 during "Post-Pop" exhibition at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
