Oroscopo come progetto della mia vita

1968

Ice structure, lead and refrigerator

325 x 386 cm (127 15/16 x 151 15/16 in.)

A lead cable crosses a dark grey plate, which is cooled by a refrigerating system. The contact with ambient air generates a thermal shock, covering the cable in frost. The cable follows a convoluted, poetic path punctuated by a star that stands out from a dark screen. The title, Oroscopo come progetto della mia vita (“the horoscope as a project for my life”), underpins this mysterious program.

In the late 1960s, as part of the La Casa Ideale (1968-1974) project, Pier Paolo Calzolari creates installations with unusual materials such as salt, foam, tobacco and ice, exploring the process through which matter is transformed and the effects of time on forms. Change and perishability are thus embedded in the work, as is the case for Oroscopo come progetto della mia vita.

Held in the Pinault Collection, this artwork by Calzolari was first shown in 2006 at the Where Are We Going? exhibition at Palazzo Grassi, in Venice.
