Notes pour une construction

2011

Installation

Variable dimensions

In 2011, at the "Eloge du Doute" (“In Praise of Doubt”) exhibition, the Punta della Dogana was decked out in strange objects, some hanging, some on the ground. The walls showed traces (outlines and hanging marks) indicating the absence of works that had been moved. In these Notes for a Building, the French-Italian artist Tatiana Trouvé took inspiration from the original function of the building (customs as a crossing point, “where the value of things is defined and transformed”) because, she says, “it is the space that defines everything it contains”.

This audacious and poetic installation is part of the research carried out by Tatiana Trouvé since the 1990s on the theme of memory and the transformations it implies. Actual mental constructions, part-way between sculpture and architecture, these “notes” create a visible and invisible dialogue, and showcase the intangibility of memory in a very real space.
