Der geringste Widerstand

1980‑1981

Film, Super 8 transferred and digitised, colour and sound

The first film by Peter Fischli and David Weiss, Der geringste Widerstand (The Point of Least Resistance) combines film noir and surreal comedy. Set against a Hollywood cliché backdrop, the film follows a rat and a bear, the artists' animal alter egos, on an absurd road trip to escape their mundane lives and find meaning in their existence. After discovering a corpse in an art gallery, they embark on a police investigation hoping to achieve fame by solving the crime. This discovery leads them to an introspective reflection, blurring the boundaries between art, crime, and the quest for meaning. Overcoming various challenges and epiphanies, they arrive at profound philosophical revelations about order and chaos.
