Francesca Amfitheatrof curated the exhibition, which featured four of the Portuguese artist’s masterpieces, a cross between sculpture, installation and video. They included the huge, hanging Red Independent Heart #1 (2008) and the strange shower heads from Psycho (2010), both in the Pinault Collection. Her art’s complex polyphony can be seen in several works worthy of Warhol or Duchamp. They combine a reinvention of Portuguese identity, feminist convictions and criticism of contemporary consumerism.
"Joana Vasconcelos", the fourth collaboration between the Pinault Collection and the Gucci Museo, featured works never seen in Italy before, at the same time that the artist represented Portugal at the 55th Venice Biennale.
