Psycho
2010
Stainless steel showerheads, handmade wool hook, fabrics, ornaments, polyester
100 x 75 x 42 cm (39 3/8 x 29 1/2 x 16 9/16 in.)
Made up of stainless steel shower heads, handmade wool crochets, fabrics, ornaments and polyester, Joana Vasconcelos' sculpture Psycho reinvests the feminine world in the architectural style of the home, the domestic space par excellence.
The two shower heads of Psycho, whose name refers to Hitchcock's famous film, combines blue textiles. Vasconcelos exhibited this work during the 2010 Loft show at the Nathalie Obadia gallery in Paris. She created a space where the pieces and art works recalled the home, brightening them up with a variety of materials and colours. The Portuguese artist's organic sculptures and installations usually draw their inspiration from her native country’s traditional imagery and craftsmanship and question taboos of female sexuality, the role of women and consumer society.
Psycho was first presented by the Pinault Collection at the 2014 “Joana Vasconcelos” show at the Gucci Museo in Florence.
