o.T. (Penisvariation, rot-orange)

1985

Watercolor

100 x 70 cm (39 3/8 x 27 9/16 in.)

O.T. (Penisvariation, Rot-Orange) is a large, energetic watercolour of several penises in orgasm next to a vagina with long blue hair. Orange and cyan patches heighten the erotic work's vitality.

Otto Muehl first became known in the 1960s for his radically corrosive performances as a key figure in Viennese Actionism. He later turned to more conventional genres, especially painting and watercolour. Sexuality was still at the centre of his work, but he was now driven by “the  joy of being alive and a bright outlook on the idea of life.”

O.T. (Penisvariation, Rot-Orange) is being presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the “Untitled, 2020” exhibition at the Punta della Dogana in Venice.
