Dialogo
1980 (remade 2012)
Duratrans in Walnut Splined Corner Case with 20 watts of interior illumination

A light bulb is vertically confronted to a candle in a light box. This poetic duel that takes place in the space between the two light sources ushers in a true dialogue between two eras, two technologies, two time spans. However, the installation Diálogo performs an inevitable drama: the candle's flame can break the light bulb's glass, and the candle can burn and vanish.
Using a metaphor, Antoni Muntadas has created an image of the duality that divides the schizophrenic capitalist society. On the one hand, the technological and scientific world built on the Industrial Revolution, on the other an existing, albeit undervalued, reality that coexists with the era of “progress” and innovation.
Diálogo (1980) was first shown by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition The Illusion of Light at Palazzo Grassi, in 2014.
