Black paint outlines a rectangle of neutral hues, the square here is not just a support to protect and enhance the artwork. Integral part of a whole, this large and massive frame finds its meaning in the title of the work itself, Schermo (N.616), i.e. the representation of a blank television screen.
Beginning in 1957 his famous series of “Screens”, Fabio Mauri created very different versions, albeit always pervaded by a certain minimalism. By devoting a significant part of his work to the representation of cathode-ray tube television sets, he engages in a critical reflection on this machine that invades households and spills out its mindless programmes.
The painting Schermo (N.616) by Fabio Mauri was first shown by the Pinault Collection at the 2016 “Accrochage” (“Hanging”) exhibition at the Punta della Dogana en 2016.
