Escalator (Rainbow Rain) is an airy, gradual installation. The viewer experiments the artwork by walking around it under a shower of colors. The artist uses simple materials that she associates with “an art of tranquility, of Sundays and bank holidays”. Through her practice, she expresses her sense of wonder: “I am constantly amazed by the beauty of life as it is,” she says.

Vidya Gastaldon's works gather symbols (from Hindu theology and Christian and hippie images) and daily life objects. The Swiss artist brings joy and gentleness to her drawings, paintings, installations and videos. Order and chaos are not opposing principles. Rather, they coexist to enhance the artist's joyful, enigmatic and rambunctious world.

The installation Escalator (Rainbow Rain) was first shown by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition The Illusion of Light at Palazzo Grassi, in 2014.
