Foodscape

Foodscape leaves no space empty. A mixed salad, fruit salad, cheese board and plate of petits fours fill the painting with overloaded opulence, dominated by the yellowish hue typical of old cooking magazines. Despite its eclectic nature, Erró's food collage is thematically arranged in perspective, with the items at the top appearing to be further away. An example is the corner of the biscuit tin.

Foodscape is part of the Icelandic artist’s "visual discourse" on narrative figuration. Packed with culinary images, this collage reflects the unbridled growth of consumption in Western societies. Erró's humorous, irreverent work underscores the absurdity of such abundance.

Foodscape was shown for the first time by the Pinault Collection at the 2009 "Mapping the Studio" exhibition at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
