Untitled, Noticias de America

Photo printing on cotton paper
18 x 24 cm (7 1/16 x 9 7/16 in.)
Taken during a single trip, the photographs of the series Noticias de América – News from the Americas tell the story of an exceptional journey. Walking from Brazil to New York, Paulo Nazareth takes pictures of himself alongside locals or American soldiers and delivers a testimony that is at once autobiographical and documentary.
In 2011, Nazareth starts a 10-month walking epic through South America, Central America, Cuba and the United States. The series Noticias de América is a compilation of the videos, photographs and texts that he posts online every day. By telling the story of his journey along this migratory route, Nazareth explores the social tensions and disparities among communities that are marked by their colonial past.
A political testimony told with a touch of humor, Paulo Nazareth's series Noticias de América is held in the Pinault Collection. It was first presented in the exhibition Dancing With Myself at the Museum Folkwang in Essen (2016).
