Luogo e segni

Luogo e segni (Place and Signs) is a sort of fictitious, abstract topography. A strip of film blackened by light crosses out the lower part, dividing it from an upper section where two long shapes, one red and the other blue, freely meander.

This enigmatic, poetic painting belongs to a series of eponymous works with the same graphic and minimalist treatment. The abstract compositions can be understood as a puzzle. It also attests to Carol Rama's reflexive work over several decades on objects and their properties to achieve what she calls "do-it-yourself" or "material images".

This work by Carol Rama was presented for the first time at the 2019 show after which it was named, "Luogo e Segni", at the Punta della Dogana in Venice.
