Continuel Lumière Cylindre is made of a monumental disk that is vertically hanging and is lit by lamps. The latter projects their light beams onto the disk's smooth surface. When getting closer, viewers who are surrounded in darkness engage in a subtle game of refractions as both conductors and spectators.

Through Julio Le Parc's kinetic pieces, viewers experiment the hypnotism, illusions and whims of the luminous matter. Each point of view is unique: depending on their position in the space and the size and sensitivity of their retina, each viewer experiments the artwork differently.

A major artwork in Julio Le Parc's research on light and the subjectivity of the gaze, the installation Continuel Lumière Cylindre (1962-2012) was first shown by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition The Illusion of Light at Palazzo Grassi, in 2014.
