The Guardian

In the Guardian series’ sculptures, the exhibition guard is conspicuous by his absence. He is alluded to here by the item specific to his function, i.e. a seat. The absence of the main subject, the presence of unexpected objects (a cushion, a metal rod) and the disturbing materiality of marble, bronze and onyx set the work on the border between dream and reality.

In her work, the Franco-Italian artist Tatiana Trouvé likes to explore the potentialities of memory and how it blurs the distinction between reality and fiction. By depicting absence, The Guardian invites us to appreciate the micro-events of everyday life and the narratives that can result from them.

Trouvé’s works in the Pinault Collection were first exhibited in 2018 during the "Debout !" ("Stand Up!") show at the Couvent des Jacobins in Rennes.
