Photo Show Portrays the Familiar

The series of photographs Photo Show Portrays The Familiar (taken from the title of a local newspaper article) focuses on the places, objects, and events that marked him during his teenage years in Michigan. They depict various places and objects from his own personal history: the family home, his grandmother’s house, Halloween decorations, an abandoned amusement park, a sculpture in a mall, works at the Ford Museum, the entrance to supposed secret passageways, and religious figures placed at the entrance to schools.

The Pinault Collection first showed this work in 2023 at the Bourse de Commerce, as part of the exhibition Mike Kelley. Ghost and Spirit.
