Gober Wedding Gown

As its title suggests, Gober Wedding Gown, a single white satin wedding dress, quotes a 1989 work by conceptual artist Robert Gober, which it exactly reproduces.
In the 1960s, Sturtevant began the iconoclastic practice of appropriating a living artist’s work by making an exact copy using the same techniques as the "original". Disembodied from its original message - criticism of a patriarchal society based on heterosexual marriage - the reproduced work is now only the ghost of itself, undermining conventional notions of authenticity and authorship in art.
Gober Wedding Gown will be exhibited for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the “Au-delà de la couleur” ("Beyond Colour") show at the Couvent des Jacobins in Rennes in June 2021.
