Threshold Menhirs

Two imposing monoliths with identical lines face each other in perfect symmetry. Their charred surface, with deep ash nuances, gives them a stature that is all the more impressive, intimidating and captivating at the same time. Like modern-day menhirs, they seem to signal the opening presence of a sacred space.

Wood is at the heart of the artistic practice of British sculptor and designer David Nash. Usually in a carbonised form, it is worked depending on the species, appearance and particular symbolism. The simple volumes emerging from this natural material always have great visual and expressive power, as in this installation.

Treshold Menhirs will be exhibited for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the “Au-delà de la couleur” (“Beyond Colour”) show at the Couvent des Jacobins in Rennes in June 2021.
