Two young pine trees seem to be growing out of a wooden beam. A striking vision of revival, Alberi di 7 metri achieves Giuseppe Penone's objectives of bringing a tree to its earlier form and making visible natural processes that are normally hidden. Cut through the center, the tree is separated in two parts, each standing on the remaining part of the wooden beam.
Alberi di 7 metri is part of a series of works that Giuseppe Penone has been creating with trees since 1969. “Trees are a permanent part of my work. Much more than a subject, they are the essence of my work. […] I am in awe when I look at a tree,” he said. The artist steps back and lets the tree's energy express itself. Here, the vital principle is at the heart of the artistic process.
