Composed of two 3.5-meter-long canvas, Ed Ruscha’s work Untitled evokes a cinema screen that is split lengthwise by a ray of light, culminating in the canonical inscription "The End".
Ed Ruscha reproduces here the very recognizable graphics and font of the golden age of Hollywood cinema in a nostalgic black and white painting. The work is a return to a golden age that is now over. It testifies to the artist's taste for the language of popular culture, in particular cinema, the symbol of his city, Los Angeles. Untitled is thus part of the Pop universe that Ruscha developed in the 1960s in California.
This work from the Pinault Collection was exhibited for the first time in 2006 in Venice at Palazzo Grassi for the “Post-Pop” exhibition.
