The End
1997
Acrylic on paper
24 x 29 13/16 in
Ruscha reproduces here the very recognisable graphics and typescript of the golden age of Hollywood cinema. This nostalgic painting is a return to this epoch that is now in the past, and constitutes a fullyspelled-out memento mori. It testifies to the artist’s taste for the language of popular culture, in particular cinema, the symbol of his city, Los Angeles.
This work was first presented by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition « Forever Sixties » at the Couvent des Jacobins in Rennes (2023).
