Mohammed Sami invents new ways of envisaging what historical painting might be in the present day. In Weeping Walls II, the artist evokes a childhood memory: coats plated at the entrance to mosques at prayer time. Their elaborate textures become an evocation of dark bodies, lending the image an atmosphere both silent and charged with emotion. This scene, devoid of any explicit presence, highlights absence and suggests a collective memory inscribed in everyday objects.
