Tag um Tag guter Tag (Day by Day good Day) (Day Set)

1974, 1981-2014

Oil on linen, 35 individual paintings

Variable dimensions

A glass - the same glass - is represented thirty-five times. Placed on the same table and in front of the same white wall, only the colours of this décor and its reflections on the object vary sensibly. These variations seem to be the product of different lights, a natural, immutable change that places each representation in a temporality that is its own.

Peter Dreher’s reflection moves away from the object as such to shift the action of painting itself. Hence, he has reproduced for forty-five years and every day, night and day, an identical hyper-realistic empty glass. The title of this unique series, consisting of more than 5,000 paintings, is inspired by Zen Buddhism: Tag um Tag guter Tag (Day Set) means “Every Day Is a Good Day”.

The series of works Tag um Tag guter Tag (Day Set) by Peter Dreher is part of the Pinault Collection. It was first shown next to one of its matching works, the Night Set, at the 2016 “Accrochage” ("Hanging") exhibition at the Punta della Dogana.
