Pivetta
Serigraphy on polished stainless steel
230 x 125 cm (90 9/16 x 49 3/16 in.)
A serigraph representing a red and yellow spiral staircase, which leads to the inscription "Pivetta", is stuck to a large mirror. By this display, the work integrates its place of exhibition which is punctuated by the provisional building similar to a political grandstand.
Pivetta is part of the “Quadri Specchianti” series inaugurated by Michelangelo Pistoletto in the 1960s. By using polished stainless steel plates on which he applies images obtained by photographic transfer, the Italian artist allows the work to reflect its environment. Therefore, its content and meaning can change according to the position of the visitor.
Michelangelo Pistoletto’s work was shown for the first time by Pinault Collection in 2006 during the exhibition “Where are We Going?” At Palazzo Grassi.
