152.4 x 45.7 x 0.6 cm (60 x 18 x 1/4 in.) (each mirror) Overall dimensions: 360 x 172 x 146 cm (141 3/4 x 67 11/16 x 57 1/2 in.) Video: 3min. 20sec. (in loop)

Three mirrors on the floor reflect a video of a slow-motion performance in the nude. The “mirror costumes” on the wall - clothes decorated with many mirrors - send back a fragmented reflection of the viewer, who in this installation experiences a complex relationship with the image, the other and the self.

Mirror Pieces Installation II belongs to the Mirror Pieces series, one of Joan Jonas' first performances. The American artist sees mirrors and video as a way to disrupt viewers' spatial perception and deny them a sense of stability and security. The immediacy of the image is fundamental in her work, offering the possibility of direct, truly present art.

Joan Jonas' Mirror Pieces Installation II is being presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the exhibition “Untitled, 2020” at the Punta della Dogana in Venice (2020).
