Tuymans has painted the portrait of a young woman based on an advertisement he saw during a trip to Panama. She is depicted in profile, with a slightly slanted perspective and tight framing. She looks straight ahead without any sign of emotion. As the artist points out: "Most of the emphasis in the painting went into the eyes of the girl: the heavy mascara amplifies the gaze, which on the one hand is propelling and full of expectations, but on the other hand, totally vacant. Given the times we are living in right now, I think the element of blindness and blind beauty is appropriate."
