3 Janvier 1967

1967

Paint on free canvas, 5 horizontal strips, painted alternatively in lacquer "Dove grey" Krylon and white, each 38 cm wide (3 + 2) and, at the top and bottom, 2 5 cm partial strips

Overall dimensions : 198 x 195.5 cm (77 15/16 x 76 15/16 in.)

Five horizontal bands measuring exactly 38 cm in width are painted on unstretched canvas, alternating “Dove Gray” Krylon gloss and white. Framing this two-tone superposition, two white 5 cm-wide bands highlight the depth of the adjacent grey.

The work 3 janvier 1967 (3 January 1967) was painted by Michel Parmentier at the beginning of his career. At the end of 1965, he began a systematic artistic process that falls under the philosophy of a denial of painting typical of the BMPT movement which he co-founded. Repetition and objectivity are at the heart of this repetitive practice, that he continued until 1968, changing only the colour each year.

The painting 3 janvier 1967 by Michel Parmentier is part of the Pinault Collection. It was first shown at the 2016 “Accrochage” ("Hanging") exhibition at the Punta della Dogana.
