Every feature in this elusive portrait is barely hinted at with understated brushstrokes, as Krebber unveils an enigmatic face, which we can imagine is that of a teenager. As someone who assisted the "greats" of German painting, such as Georg Baselitz and Martin Kippenberger, Krebber maintains that a painter is an eternal apprentice. Krebber himself seems to constantly hold off painting a "definitive" form. Here he employs an intentionally immature style, which reads as much as a symbolic self-portrait as an allegory of youthful painting, a heartfelt ode to the refusal to grow up.
