Wood marquetry

34 × 30 cm

This portrait depicts a teenager, his face bathed in blue light, as he imagines another life for himself in front of a screen hidden under his duvet. It is one of the few faces in the exhibition whose gaze does not connect with the viewer. Camille Blatrix uses wood marquetry, an age-old technique, to depict unashamedly contemporary themes, creating a visual and conceptual disconnect. Synthesised by technical constraints, this face becomes generic, resembling mangas characters whose story has yet to be written.
