Cutural exchange

Cultural Exchange is a rich, colourful, complex work. The whole composition can be taken in with a glance, but the many scenes taking place there are quite diverse: traditional sculpture, television, food and female and male archetypes in a dense swarm embodying a fierce cultural face-off.

Cultural Exchange, an acrylic on canvas painting packed with motifs alluding to consumer society, advertising, mass media and African art, takes a critical view of multiculturalism. Robert Colescott undermines the idea of interaction between the men - the sailor, the businessman and the sculptor - and the women - the muse, the housewife and the swimmer.

Cultural Exchange is being presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the “Untitled, 2020” exhibition at the Punta della Dogana in Venice (2020).
