Talismán is an assemblage of everyday objects—a white door, four broom heads and chimes—yet it seems to possess magical virtues and a protective power. The totem holds so many secrets and untold stories that it embodies the possibility of opening up possible futures.
This installation by Abigail DeVille echoes one that she recently presented at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art: The American Future (2018), which alternated between research, archaeology and poetry. Creating a new form of landscape, she takes us on a journey through time, allowing her to deconstruct a monolithic vision of the West.
Abigail DeVille's installation Talismán is being presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the “Untitled, 2020” exhibition at the Punta della Dogana (2020).
