Untitled
Acrylic on canvas
293 x 209 cm (115 3/8 x 82 5/16 in.)
Organic shapes flow across the canvas. What looks like a misshapen face, recognisable by its eyes, the contours of a nose and the slit of a mouth, stands out against a dented, bright ovoid disc. The asymmetrical eyes try to meet the viewer's, who witnesses a sad, disgraced spectacle.
Enrico David's work contains references to philosophy, anthropology, psychology and sexuality. He sees the human figure as a metaphor for transformation underpinning the creative act both in form and in the creation of meaning. Depicted in mid-development, his partially formed anthropomorphic figures sometimes suggest melancholy, uncertainty or pain.
Enrico David's Untitled is being presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection at the “Untitled, 2020” exhibition at the Punta della Dogana in Venice (2020).
