Gunpowder Forest Bubble

36 trees (36 trunks and 250 branches) artificial: resin, polystyrene, fiberglass, steel, polyurethane foam, paint, gunpowder 1 moon (inflatable sphere with built-in ventilation motor, internal neon rail): plastic, motor, neon, metal suspension

The branches of a carbonised forest are covered in gunpowder. In the centre floats a shining bubble, an imposing moon in the shadowy night. The whole scene seems to be taken straight from a film set.
In Gunpowder Forest Bubble, Loris Gréaud plays with time and space. Trees, often used in models, are on a varying scale, while their charred appearance and branches coated with an inflammable substance give the impression that they might catch fire. Although the artist believes that the work speaks for itself and allows it to respond to personal obsessions, he gives the viewer the freedom to apply whatever narrative they like.
Part of the Pinault Collection, this work was first presented at the Palazzo Grassi at the "Le Monde vous appartient" (“The World Belongs to You”) exhibition (2011-2012).
